Is there a Forza Horizon-style app for the real roads you drive?

What carries over from open-world driving games to an app for the roads outside your door, what deliberately does not, and how a drive works.

Short answer: Yes. OVERDRIVE: Road Tracker & Map is an iPhone app built around the road-discovery map from open-world driving games like Forza Horizon, applied to the real roads you drive. Your city starts dark and every road you drive is painted onto your own map, anywhere on earth. It adds 2,206 curated zones with coins, daily challenges, XP, levels, crews and simulated ghost drivers (always tagged GHOST). Unlike a racing game it never scores speed: drives are scored on smoothness, called flow. OVERDRIVE is not affiliated with Forza, Xbox or Playground Games.

What people mean by "Forza in real life"

When someone asks for a "Forza-style app" or an "IRL Forza", they rarely mean racing on public roads. They mean the feeling of the Horizon map: roads you have never driven are unknown, roads you have driven become yours, and there is always something on the map pulling you somewhere new. Forza Horizon 5 even has an achievement, "Ride and Seek", for discovering and driving every road in its version of Mexico.

A real-roads version keeps the map and the reasons to explore, and leaves the racing in the game. That is the whole design of OVERDRIVE.

What carries over from the game

In an open-world driving gameIn OVERDRIVE, on real roads
Undriven roads are blank on the mapYour city starts dark. Each road you drive is painted on, snapped to the real street.
A completion percentageAn estimated discovery percentage for each of the 230 cities with zone packs. Everywhere else, roads still paint and the app counts the areas you have explored worldwide.
Things to find on the map2,206 curated zones in 230 cities across 53 countries, in four kinds: flow, coins, scenic and discovery. You can also drop your own zone anywhere.
CollectiblesCoins to collect inside coin zones.
Daily and weekly goalsThree daily challenges, a weekend run with the same objective for every driver worldwide (Friday to Sunday, UTC), and streaks.
XP and levelsXP for drives, zones, challenges and discovery milestones at 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of a city. Levels.
Rivals to chaseSimulated ghost drivers on the map, always tagged GHOST so nobody mistakes them for real people, and you can switch them off.
Clubs and co-opFriends, crews that pool painted miles on their city's board, Convoy (live position with friends, off by default) and chat.
Replays and a photo modeRoute replay of saved drives, seven map themes and a share card for each drive.

What deliberately stays in the game

If you want lap times, take the car to a track day and use a lap timer built for it. OVERDRIVE is for the roads everyone shares.

What a drive looks like

  1. While parked, mount the phone and start the drive.
  2. Drive. OVERDRIVE records hands-free with the screen awake (or with the screen off, if you turn on Background Recording), so there is nothing to unlock or tap.
  3. Park and end the drive. The summary shows distance, flow, XP, any zones completed and coins collected, and the new roads are painted onto your map.
  4. Next time, the dark parts of the map are the reason to take a different way home.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if you like filling in a map, you drive the same few routes and want a reason to vary them, you take road trips, or you want something to do with friends who also like driving.

Not the right app if you want speed, lap or drift numbers; you use Android; you want it on CarPlay; you want every drive detected without starting it; or you need a mileage log for tax.

OVERDRIVE is free to download and your first two drives are free. After that, OVERDRIVE Pro costs $3.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $34.99 a year in the US (prices vary by country), or a one-time Lifetime purchase ($29.99 until 31 October 2026, then $49.99). The annual and monthly plans include a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers; the weekly plan has none. The price and any trial are shown in the app before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is OVERDRIVE affiliated with Forza Horizon?

No. Forza and Forza Horizon are trademarks of Microsoft. OVERDRIVE is an independent iPhone app and mentions Forza Horizon only to describe the kind of map it is inspired by.

Is there an app that makes real driving feel like Forza Horizon?

OVERDRIVE is the closest match we know of for the exploration side: an iPhone map where every real road you drive gets painted in, plus zones, coins, XP, levels, daily challenges and crews. It does not recreate racing, and it never scores speed.

Does driving faster give a higher score in OVERDRIVE?

No. Speed and drifting are never scored, ranked or rewarded. Drives are scored on flow, which measures smoothness, and there is no lap timer, no speed leaderboard and no drift scoring anywhere in the app.

Does OVERDRIVE work outside the US and on road trips?

Yes. It paints roads you drive anywhere on earth, and a road trip paints every road along the way. It also ships with 2,206 curated zones in 230 cities across 53 countries, and shows an estimated discovery percentage for each of those cities.

Can I use OVERDRIVE on a motorcycle or scooter?

Yes. You choose your vehicle (car, motorcycle, scooter, electric, or van/SUV) and flow is tuned to it. There is also a passenger mode that paints the map without scoring flow.

Do I have to hold or tap my phone while driving?

No. You start the drive while parked, then put the phone down. It records hands-free (with the optional Background Recording setting, even with the screen off), and scores and rewards appear after you park.

Is OVERDRIVE on Android or CarPlay?

No. OVERDRIVE is an iPhone app (iOS 16.4 or later). There is no Android version and no CarPlay app.

How much does OVERDRIVE cost?

OVERDRIVE is free to download and your first two drives are free. After that, OVERDRIVE Pro costs $3.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $34.99 a year in the US (prices vary by country), or a one-time Lifetime purchase ($29.99 until 31 October 2026, then $49.99).
